Tasked to find a suitable mid conference ice breaker and team building session for our client, a leading UK Financial Institution, with a group of 150 delegates in Leeds and with only a 45 minute mid afternoon slot, the options were always going to be limited! But we rose to the challenge and suggested a short list of 5 logistically achievable options ranging from painting to singing to building tasks.
The activity chosen by the client was ROLLERCOASTER. We split the overall group of 150 into 4 smaller teams and their challenge was to organise themselves into sub groups to each assemble their six piece Rollercoaster and to get it to successfully work ... and all within 40 minutes! Normally we would have already divided them into these smaller groups but part of their challenge was to create their own teams and all at the drop of a hat.
Pre-briefing the team leaders helped get this swing into action with no time loss after an initial briefing and we had simplified the blueprints to give them every fighting chance of getting it done. However this is normally a 90 minute task and requires careful coordination between sub groups to make sure it all fits together successfully!
They rose to, and met, the challenge (we always knew they would!) and all 4 teams squeezed into the time frame - just! It proved a resounding success, a superb ice breaker and teambuilding event with a touch of competitiveness and a great way to release some pent up, post-lunch energy. It was all done at such a pace that Chris, the Event Manager, had a job to get any snaps that weren't blurred but we have found a few for you anyway!
