Olympiad Case Study

The conference was for 140 staff from B&Q. The theme was the Olympics and the event was only 3 weeks away! After the success of the Film Making event in 2006 this called for something bespoke to the theme and required a lot of action and energy.

Masterpiece was considered as was Cerebration and whilst both were considered as a good option neither really offered the required Olympic emphasis.

To address this we took the Cerebration concept of multi tasks and created a similar style of event but with a huge twist toward sports, China, Beijing and Olympics and thus was born OLYMPIAD.

Olympiad offers a plethora of 80 tasks and challenges that range from conundrums and quizzes to building tasks, painting tasks and retrieval challenges. Add to this the photo missions and you quickly realise that teams need initiative as well as quick decision making to get the very best out of their team. All sorts of skills are required from the separate team members as they attempt to do as many tasks as they can in the given time frame.

As a taster of this event here are a few of the easier challenges!

  • Take a picture of the team on the Great Wall of China
  • Sing the Olympic anthem
  • Team to perform the Chinese Dragon Dance (don’t ask!!)
  • Get a bulls eye on the mini curling
  • Challenge another team to a 5-aside mini ping pong match
  • Wrap a team member in a toilet roll and take a picture of The Mummy Returns!
  • Create your company logo out of Lego
