30th Anniversary Family Fun Day Case Study

Ripley Castle near Harrogate in Yorkshire provided a fabulous backdrop for the 30th Anniversary Fun Day for a company of consulting engineers based in Newcastle, London and Edinburgh, who had invited all staff and families to celebrate 30 years of successful business.

Guests were transported by train and coach and then walked through the castle grounds into the event field. Thomas the Tank engine ferried some of them across and the others were entertained along the route by clowns and costumed characters. As they approached the field the full extent of the event dawned on them as the dodgems, Skymaster, It’s a Knockout and Orbiter loomed in to view!

On arrival at the main marquee, sited majestically at the top of the hill and giving splendid views of the lake and the full extent of the fun day, they were greeted with bucks fizz as they gathered for the start of the event, whilst the Jazz band and Steel band alternated in the background. After a brief welcome by the CEO the activities were officially open for their exclusive use and the magnificent hog roast, BBQ and smoothie bar ran for 2 hours.

With a selection of 15 different inflatables, from penalty shootout to human table football and the massive children’s Snappy Crocodile and Noah’s Ark plus a full fairground with side stalls the only problem the guests had was what to do next and how could they get around all of the action!

In addition there was driving action for all ages as well as archery, laser clays and air rifles. Small ones were looked after with face painting, a Make'n'Do workshop as well as circus skills.

The afternoon highlight was undoubtedly the It’s a Knockout competition with 6 teams from the various offices battling it out head to head on many wet and wild challenges – foam everywhere!!

Afternoon tea was served at 4.45 in between the football (of course!) as we had rigged up plasma screens with TV reception in the main marquee for them. At 6.00pm the coaches arrived to take them back home, a happy but tired bunch of people ever to have set foot in Ripley Castle!
